Interesting bit of reports coming out today regarding a certain young English striker, Daniel Sturridge, is fed up with his time at Chelsea and Daily Mail has inside information that he will make his move to Arsenal in the summer. Daily Mail has also claimed that Arsenal chief scout, Steve Rowley, has put the “wheels in motion” to maneuver a London switch.
Reports suggest that Sturridge is beginning to grow tired of having to feature as winger with defensive duties and with the likes of Fernando Torres being featured more heavily, it would be almost impossible for him to play his preferred role. Now as positive as I want to be about this move, I must admit that a transfer like this would not only be expensive for Arsenal’s tastes, but it would be unlikely unless Sturridge himself pushes a move and gives the club no choice. Also another thing to consider is that there is no way Sturridge could overtake RVP’s spot especially how he’s been on fire this entire campaign.
The only way I can see this happening is if we completely switch our formation to accomodate the 22-year old and allow both Van Persie and him to play together. As tempting and mouth-watering that sounds, it really all depends on what Wenger wants to do. Is he worth switching a formation over? If he wasn’t happy playing on the wing for Chelsea, what makes our situation any different as we currently play with one centralized forward and two wingers.
Sturridge has claimed in the past how fond he is of Arsenal and Arsene Wenger’s managerial style, and with Chu-Young Park potentially leaving the club to find first-team football elsewhere, Sturridge would be a MASSIVE signing.
The ultimate likelihood of this happening is quite farfetched, but one can only dream. Or does Wenger plan on letting R.V.P go, still no news of him sining a new contract.
