BackRobert Pires has sparked talk of a return to Arsenal by training with the squad the day after Thierry Henry scored on his second debut.
Pires enjoyed a run out at Gunners' London Colney base, prompting midfielder Jack Wilshere to speculate on Twitter:
"Super, super Robert Pires is training today........return of another king?!? How amazing would that be!"
Wilshere prompted a flurry of tweets from Arsenal fans calling for the 38-year-old to return to the club he left in 2006.
However, Pires responded to the speculation by tweeting: "Of course I am training just to maintain my fitness level! But thanks I appreciate you all want me back at Arsenal!"
Pires played 284 games for Arsenal from 2000 to 2006, winning the 2001/02 Football Writers' Footballer of the Year award, before joining Villarreal. He signed a short-term deal withAston Villa last season, but made little impression in his 12 appearances.
Pires's French compatriot Thierry Henry made a spectacular return on Monday night after signing a short-term loan deal with the Gunners.
The club's top scorer took just 10 minutes of a substitute appearance to score his 227th Arsenal goal in a 1-0 FA Cup win against Leeds United.

pokeracer If there is any truth in this and Pires is to return, things must be worse at Arsenal than we know. No disrespect to Pires but I think he is a player who has had his Top 4 playing days. Although he may well be able to play a part in helping one of the bottom clubs for the next few months stay up. I wish him well and thank him for his past contribution.
