Arsene Wenger will today make one last-ditch bid to convince Samir Nasri to stay at Arsenal by offering him a new contract which is set to make him the highest-paid player at the club.

Nasri, who has just one year remaining on his current deal, is wanted byManchester United, Manchester City andChelsea.

It looked certain that the 24-year-old was going to leave Emirates Stadium this summer but the Arsenal manager is refusing to give up the fight.

Wenger is expected to have more talks with the France international and is hoping to convince him that his long-term future is at Arsenal.

Nasri refused to sign a five-year contract worth £90,000 a week earlier this year but Wenger is hoping a higher offer will make the midfielder change his mind.

It worked last summer when the Arsenal boss convinced captain Cesc Fabregas to ignore Barcelona's overtures by increasing his weekly pay to £110,000.

Fabregas is still expected to join the Spanish giants before the start of the season but Wenger hopes a similar tactic will encourage Nasri to commit to the club.

He has the option to offer the former Marseille star, who joined Arsenal for £15.8million in 2008, the same £110,000-a-week package, which is nearly double Nasri's current £60,000-a-week deal.

Wenger still faces a tough task because Nasri is concerned about Arsenal's ability to challenge for major silverware - after six years without a trophy - and it is understood the club's ambition in the transfer market is just as crucial to his decision as an improved deal.
