Cesc fabregas tops barcelona's january shopping list (#12) Outgoing Barcelona president Joan Laporta is reportedly desperate to sign Cesc Fabregas in January.
The Nou Camp chief had been keen to land the Arsenal captain next summer as a parting gift before he steps down. But he is now pushing for a mid-season transfer in case he is out-manoeuvred by political rivals.
Laporta wants to sign Fabregas so that the 22-year-old does not become an election issue. The 47-year-old wants his successor to come from within the present board but is mindful that outsider Sandro Rosell will use links with Fabregas to his advantage.
Barca insiders have been confident a deal can be done for next summer, but the team needs strengthening sooner rather following a dip in form of Thierry Henry and a lack of alternatives.
The Catalans are keen on Robinho, who would jump at the chance of joining them, but Manchester City are proving more resistant to a deal than expected.
Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo says an agreement to sign Fabregas in August was all but done, only for Arsene Wenger to veto the deal and it is hard to see the French manager taking a different stance now.
The Spain midfielder has also insisted his commitment to the Gunners should not be questioned, though it is widely expected he will one day return to the club where he came through the ranks before moving to north London as a 16-year-old. |

Fw: Cesc fabregas tops barcelona's january shopping list (#13)
they tried at the beginning of the season and it didn't happen. don't think they'll achieve it this time neither. so it really doesn't matter what they want cuz money can't buy it all, Cesc's commitment is strong

Fw: Cesc fabregas tops barcelona's january shopping list (#40) I believe that sooner or later Cesc will end up by playing in Barcelona, hope that he'll stay here with us many years more for what he does in the field which is very good for the team. |
