Playing career

The Arsène Wenger's football career was not very successful, at least on a personal level. He started playing amateur football as a defender or sweeper for several smaller French clubs, while studying at the same time at the University of Strasbourg, where he graduated in Economics in 1974. Wenger made the leap to professional in 1978, signed by RC Strasbourg, and his debut against AS Monaco. Although the RC Strasbourg won the French league in 1979, Wenger did not just role in the team, playing only three times. In 1981 he graduated, he was appointed manager and youth team coach RC Strasbourg.

Coaching career

After an unsuccessful pursuits stage in the AS Nancy, Wenger's career took off when he became the manager of AS Monaco in 1987. Initially, Wenger achieved great success with the club, winning the French League Cup in 1988 and in 1991, and by signing quality players like Glenn Hoddle and Jurgen Klinsmann. However, he was fired in 1994 when the team finished the league in ninth position. Rejecting an early proposal of Bayern Munich after separated from the AS Monaco, he went to the Japanese league for 18 months, living a successful stage and with his team winning the Nagoya Grampus Eight, the prestigious Emperor's Cup.

On September 30, 1996, Wenger joined Arsenal, replacing the fired Bruce Rioch. Wenger was a virtual unknown in England (although he had been captured previously as a potential Technical Director of Football Association), but had an immediate impact and quickly took the club to success. In his first season at the club, Arsenal finished third in the Premier League and missed the train of the Champions League for the difference in goals scored and conceded.

In his second season in charge (1997/98), Arsenal made a double, the second in club history, winning the Premier League and FA Cup, the team rallied a difference of twelve points to win the league title when still remain two days to play. The following seasons were not as successful, although he played the finals of the UEFA Cup in 2000 and the FA Cup in 2001. In the first, the Arsenal was defeated on penalties by Galatasaray S.K., in the second, the Gunners fell into the hands of the Reds (nickname for the Liverpool players) 2-1. However, over time, the signings of Fredrik Ljungberg, Thierry Henry and Robert Pires settled and Arsène Wenger's Arsenal won the double again in 2001/02.

Arsenal retained the FA Cup title in 2003 and won the Premiership title in 2004 without losing a league match, something that could not get any English team since he made the Preston North End in the season 1888 / 89, Preston players had been dubbed "The Invincibles", while Wenger's pupils were called "The Untouchables." A year earlier, Wenger had been ridiculed for saying that Arsenal could not be defeated in a season.

With another FA Cup title won in 2005, in total, Arsenal have won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups under Wenger's orders, a fact that makes the French coach with the most titles in the club's history . However, the Champions League is still resists, the Arsenal was closer than ever to manage to be champions of Europe in 2005/06, which fell in the final against FC Barcelona 2-1 Ronaldinho in Stade de France in Paris.

Achievements

Wenger has a reputation as a discoverer of new talents and developing the skills of young players. During his stay at Arsenal, Wenger has signed many young players unknown or had not yet exploited on other computers. Such is the case of Patrick Vieira, Nicolas Anelka, Francesc Fabregas and Philippe Senderos, players under him have become world-class figures. Earlier in his time at AS Monaco, brought from Africa to George Weah who later would become FIFA World Player 1995 with AC Milan and won the 1995 Golden Ball.

Although Wenger has made some signings for Arsenal billionaires, thanks to its ability to recognize the talent and the sale of many players with better wage offers once it had consolidated net of expenses your file is favorable when compared with great expense of other major Premiership clubs, according to Peter Hill-Wood, Arsenal chairman, "Arsène has spent approximately, since he has been with us 4 to 5 million pounds net." A notorious example of this ability was the purchase of Nicolas Anelka from Paris Saint-Germain, for only half a million pounds to sell only two years after Real Madrid for 22.3 million pounds.

Wenger has not only discovered new talents, but has also given new impetus to the career of many established players who had lost their way or form. Wenger remained with the captain Tony Adams after he admitted his addiction to alcohol in 1996. Wenger's support was instrumental in the rehabilitation of Adams and its return to top level football, which kept several years. Wenger's support was rewarded when Adams captained the club to two doublets. Similarly, Wenger also resurrected the career of Thierry Henry, polished figure at AS Monaco, who could not win at Juventus. However, Thierry Henry has become Arsenal's captain and top scorer in the history of the London club.

Wenger has also renewed training regimens and diet of the staff, the club away from their habits of drinking and junk food. It has also directly influenced the design of the new Arsenal stadium, the Emirates Stadium and the new sports complex in London Colney.

Arsène Wenger enjoys much support from the fans of Arsenal, the club's fans have placed great faith in his manager and long-term vision, as reflected in the popular saying of the fans of Arsenal, "Arsène Knows" that is emphatically repeated many times in the flags seen in Highbury on match days. For Arsenal's farewell season of which has been his home for nearly one hundred years, Highbury, the fans showed their appreciation for the manager reserving one of the "Theme Days" proposed by the club for the departure of former team stadium "Wenger Day" held on October 22, 2005, during a match against Manchester City, the day we met 56 years Wenger.

Controversy

Wenger's behavior is usually soft and not aggressive, but many arguments have challenged this view. His teams have often been criticized for their indiscipline, after receiving 52 red cards between 1996 and 2003. However, more recently, the team's performance has improved in 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons has reached the Fair Play Award from the Premier League for its sporty demeanor.

Wenger offered Sheffield United F.C. repeat the 4th round match of FA Cup in the 1998/99 season, after Marc Overmars scored the decisive goal for Arsenal after Nwankwo Kanu (who debuted with the Gunners) does not return the ball to the opponent, who had thrown out field to allow a partner received treatment due to injury. Arsenal won the replay 2-1.

It is also known rivalry between Wenger and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. It peaked in the unfortunate incident "Pizzagate" at Old Trafford in October 2004 following a 2-0 defeat, where the team dropped food to rival Wenger in the tunnel, though Wenger claimed not have seen. Wenger was fined 15,000 pounds for Ruud Van Nistelrooy call, Manchester United, "cheat" in a television interview after the match. Both managers have agreed to moderate his statements, trying to cool down the confrontation.

During October and November 2005, Wenger became embroiled in a war of words with Chelsea FC, Jose Mourinho. He accused Wenger of having an obsession with Chelsea FC extraprofessional; went further even, by branding Wenger of "voyeur", stating: "You are concerned about us, always talking about us. It's Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea" . Wenger pointed out that only responded to questions from journalists on the Chelsea FC, and defined the attitude of Mourinho as "disrespectful." Wenger also hinted at a possible formal complaint to FIFA over the incident, but that action did not happen. Mourinho then said he regretted the comment "voyeur" and Wenger accepted his apology.

Wenger has often been criticized by other coaches in the Premier League by the English under-representation in their onces.

Post closed for being repeated. And please, do not open "official posts of a player", it's too generic and it makes it very difficult to find a precise piece of information you may be looking for.
