Arsenal are looking to sign Birmingham City defender Scott Dann, according to The Telegraph.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool are looking for a young but experienced defender to help cure the defensive frailties which hindered their campaigns last season, and the Birmingham defender fits that mould.

The interest in Dann, who is valued at £10 million, has also increased after the relegation of his club Birmingham, with both clubs wanting to bring the player back into the Premier League after he had a successful season in the back line of the League Cup-winning side.

Kenny Dalglish has turned to the defender after losing out on Phil Jones to rivals Manchester United, while Arsene Wenger has also been tracking Christopher Samba from Blackburn, but both managers believe that Dann's signature would represent better value for money.

Both teams do have an allure for the Birmingham defender as Liverpool is his home town, yet he has spoke of his desire to play in the Champions League, something he will not be able to do immediately at Anfield.
