Arsenal set sights on Juventus defender Martin Caceres - report

Martin Caceres has emerged as a possible transfer target for Arsenal, according to reports in Spain. The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Juventus from Barcelona until the end of the season.

The Uruguayan international is reportedly hoping the Bianconeri will pay €11 million to make the move permanent this summer, but Cadena Ser report that Arsene Wenger has added the defender to his wish list for next season.

Reports claim the Old Lady have been trying to negotiate a smaller fee for the defender, who arrived at Camp Nou from Villarreal for around €16.5 million in 2009 but failed to make the grade at Barca, with coach Pep Guardiola deeming him surplus to requirements.

While Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen has been a revelation at the Emirates this season, Wenger is thought to be unhappy with the options available to partner the former Ajax man, with William Gallas, Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre all on the wrong side of 30.
